College Reading and Writing

1.  You call it - Definition or Problem/Solution completion - Definition or Problem/Solution rewrites - College essay writing -  scholarship info search and writing. I spoke with the counselors.  There is a woman, Valarie Miller, who works for the state of Illinois.  She is in the College Room every WEDNESDAY during the lunch periods.  She specializes in scholarship searches and scholarship writing.  IT IS HER JOB TO HELP YOU!!!  It would be a good idea to see her!

1. SSR- we are going the discussion next week (12/6), so you can update the  BOOK LOG  as well OR Essay writing.  Many of you need this time to GET YOUR ESSAY COMPETED! 2. Sentence combining (creating compound, complex, and compound complex)     - Writing Conference during the grammar work 3. College essay writing or scholarship search and essay writing

1. SSR or  SSR LOG  (you can complete this for SLPL) 2.  Self-Eval Rubric 3. Vocabulary-You will teach each other!     Sentence Writing- You do then I rewrite      - You will create a sentence WITHOUT using one of our vocab words, but one of the vocab words could be substituted into the sentence.       - Your partner will then rewrite the sentence using the vocab work EX: Vocab word is NECESSITY         - Sentence I write- Milk is something babies need to have.          - Partner- Milk is a necessity for babies. EX: Vocab word is INDUSTRIOUS         - Sentence I write- My mother said I had worked really hard when I cleaned the whole house.         Partner- I was industrious when I cleaned the whole house Due Monday: 1- College Essay pre-writng 2- Intro and body for both "essays"

1. Complete the Problem/Solution writing (and the definition writing if needed) 2. Which prompt do we feel more comfortable with?  That will become our next essay Due Monday: 1- College Essay pre-writng 2- Intro and body for both "essays" - I am checking these on MONDAY

Vocab- combine sentences using empirical (use dice randomizer)    - You must write two (2) sentences.  One (1) must have the work EMPIRICAL in it     Combine your sentences in the following ways:    - Make either a compound (FANBOYS) or complex (SWBAI) sentence    - Use a connector (rule 3 on page 1)- however/therefore/furthermore/as a matter of fact or  CONJUNCTIVE ADVERB LIST    - Use a participle or a compound predicate (rule 4 on page 2) 4.
